The Fun of the Zoo for Free

bigstock baby koala and mother koala Zoo

Free is just not something that we get to experience much anymore, especially for kids.

However at the Ipswich Nature Centre, you can get all the fun of the zoo without any hassle and without spending a cent. Located within the grounds of Queens Park, the Nature Centre has a tonne of fantastic displays to check out and many animal enclosures filled with awesome native animals.

The enclosures have been designed to reflect local bushland and the local flora so it’s very authentically Australian. You can see kangaroos, emus, snakes, lots of water birds and plenty of lizards running about. Check out the wombat’s enjoying their favorite past times or take a walk through the Aviary to see our beautiful feathered friends.

Check out some farm animals up close in the Australian Barn. Older kids will love reading the information plaque’s that give an extra insight into the lives of these fantastic creatures. The animals aren’t shy and are always out and about, entertaining visitors with their antics, only the guinea pig is a little timid.

There’s a feeding time in the barn each day at 11.30 which is a great experience for the kids. There’s plenty of parking and pram and wheelchair access along the boardwalk. Being so close to Queens Park its a great day out to visit the animals in the morning during feeding time then head over to the park for a picnic for lunch.
