Cycling in South East Queensland

One of the best ways to explore South East Queensland is on two wheels, wind rushing through your hair under the bright blue sky. There’s lots of things to see on a ride. Better yet, you get to experience it all at your own pace.

There are also some great cycle tours to take. Even if you don’t ride often you can take a tour through some gentle and beautiful areas on a range of mountain bikes, tandem bikes and road bikes.

There’s something for everyone. For families who prefer gentle concrete paths to beginner mountain bikers looking for an off-road challenge and adrenaline seeking single track riders.

Ride through the picturesque landscape of rolling hills, charming villages, spectacular coastal, hinterland and mountain views and breathe deeply of that crisp and fresh coastal air.

You have lots of options on a ride through the South East, let your interests guide you. You could plan a trip to see some of the local produce being made or you could stop by all the local art galleries. You could plan a gentle ride through the laid back Scenic Rim, beautiful Toowoomba or historic Ipswich. You could also explore the beautiful city of Brisbane itself.

Make sure you plan to stop off for a casual meal at one of the fantastic hip café’s where the coffee is sublime, or plan to end your trip at one of the fine dining establishments scattered throughout the region.

There’s something for everyone, terrains range from beachfront cycle paths to narrow mountain passes and winding rainforest paths.

There are some great rail trails to take too, they follow the pioneering paths forged through the bushland and they’re a great way to experience the natural beauty of the South East.

In Wulkuraka - the Brassall Rail Trail is 3km long and is a great trail near Ipswich. The Ferny Grove Rail Trail is just northwest of Brisbane and offers some great bushland scenery. The Fassifern Rail Trail is 6km long in Boonah just southeast of Brisbane.

You can’t go past the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail too. These places are great for tourists with guided group tours on offer.

Cycling is one of the best things to do in Gladstone, you’ll be amazed at what you’ll see and it’s a highly recommended but not obvious attraction for visitors of the region.
